Swiss Steak

Submitted by Teresa Ness
I made this Swiss Steak last night and it is so good (if you like tomato sauces.) I used to brown the steak in a frying pan and it would splatter all over so I decided to do it this way. This is my own recipe.

Ingredients

2 lbs. tenderized round steak

½ lg. onion (chopped)

1 lg. clove garlic

1 - 16oz. can stewed tomatoes

2 beef bouillon cubes

Salt and pepper

Directions

Preheat oven to 350º

I use a small blue roasting pan to make this.

Cut fat off steak, flour and pepper one side and pound. Turn over and wet, sprinkle with meat tenderizer and pierce. Cut into about 3 " pieces or whatever size you like.

Put oil in roaster and coat both sides of steaks with oil. Brown in oven covered for 20min, turn. Brown another 20 min covered, turn.

Add onion, garlic and cook another 20 min. uncovered. If it gets dry add a little water. Dissolve beef cubes in hot water and add to meat with the tomatoes. Add about 1/2 cup water.

Cover and bake at 350º for at least 45 min.

If sauce is too thin add some flour mixed with water - I didn't add any.
