Old Fashioned Bread Pudding

3 cups soft bread cubes (use 4 cups for firmer pudding)

1 tsp. cinnamon

1/2 cup seedless raisins

eggs, slightly beaten

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 tsp salt

2 cups milk, scalded with 1/4 cup butter

1/8 tsp nutmeg for top

  

Heat oven to 350º. 

 

Combine bread cubes, cinnamon and raisins; mix well and place in 1½ qt. baking dish.

Beat together the eggs, sugar, and salt. Carefully add milk, mix well and pour over bread cubes.

Sprinkle top with nutmeg.

Place baking dish in pan of hot water (1 inch deep) and bake for 40-45 minutes or until knife inserted comes out clean.

Serve warm with cream.

Makes 6-8 servings
