Christmas Cookies (Spritz cookies)

1 cup butter, softened

¾ cup sugar

egg

1 tsp. almond extract

2¼ cups flour

1/8 tsp. salt

¼ tsp. baking powder

 

Preheat oven to 375ºF 

 

Cream together the butter and the sugar.  Add the egg and almond extract.  Mix until well blended.

 

In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and baking powder.  Gradually sift into the butter mixture and stir well.

 

Using a cookie press, press out cookies onto an ungreased cookie sheet.   If desired, decorate with sprinkles, colored sugars, or candies. 

 

Bake for approx. 8 minutes until edges are golden.  Remove from baking sheet, cool on racks.
