Caramel Candy

2 cups white sugar

1¾ cups corn syrup

¾ cup butter

1 large can carnation milk (evaporated, not Eagle Brand)

1 tsp. vanilla

1 cup chopped walnuts

 

Sprinkle nuts on buttered cookie sheet. 

 

In a large pot, ½ can milk, syrup and sugar, mix well.  Let hard boil. When hard boiling, add rest of milk & butter slowly so won't stop boiling. 

 

Cook until firm boil 248º - 250º (candy thermometer).  Add vanilla to candy.  Pour candy over nuts, let set for approx. 2 hrs.

 

Cut in small squares, wrap in wax paper.
